Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) invited the actors of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) who are members of related associations and associations to request inputs in the framework of designing microeconomic policies.
“I want this afternoon to get input in order to design policies, especially micro, small and medium enterprises, which we know are the latest data that I received 62.9 million MSME business units in Indonesia,” said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) when receiving the UMKM players at the Merdeka Palace Jakarta, Tuesday (6/18/2019).
On that occasion, he invited representatives from the Indonesian Micro and Small Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMIKIMDO), the Indonesian MSME Association (AKUMINDO), the Indonesian Association of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (AKUMANDIRI), and the Indonesian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Association (HIPMIKIMDO).
The President assessed that tens of millions of MSMEs in the country have a very big opportunity to be developed as economic potential.
Therefore, he needs proposals and input from MSME actors directly as material in the design of policy design related to MSMEs in the future.
According to him, the potential for increasing MSMEs in Indonesia is still very wide open. His belief was based on his experience in building UMKM from scratch before he plunged into politics.
“I think we have the opportunity that is still very loose in Indonesia to develop existing businesses. Opportunities such as this let us use it as well as possible in the service business, trade, or small and medium industries that I myself experienced from zero, “he said.
To the organizers of the association and the associations present, the former President also mentioned whether the MSMEs in Indonesia still need other facilities that must be provided by the government.
However, the Head of State reminded that the facilities which might later be provided by the government did not kill the entrepreneurial spirit of MSME entrepreneurs in Indonesia.
“But also be careful, too many facilities sometimes weaken (soul) entrepreneurship from all of us. Facilities need to, but do not weaken the character of entrepreneurship that we have,” he said.
The Head of State at the meeting was accompanied by a number of officials including Secretary of State Pratikno, Presidential Communication Team Ari Dwipayana, and Special Staff President Ahmad Erani Yustika.
More than 20 representatives of business actors in the MSME sector attended the meeting which lasted for about one hour.
Present at the meeting included General Chairperson of HIPMIKIMDO Syahnan Phalipi, Chairman of AKUMINDO M. Ikhsan Ingratubun, Chairman of AKUMANDIRI Hermawati Setyorinny, and Chairperson of Hipmikimdo Maz Pandjaitan.
The Chairman of AKUMINDO, Ikhsan Ingratubun, said that his party had proposed and provided input to the President to cut back on MSME taxes.
“Taxes that have been reduced by 1% to 0.5%, but from the turnover side, it is still too heavy for us. So we ask for the same as China, which in 2020, that micro and small businesses are asking for 0%, “he said.
