Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will invite the leaders of ASEAN countries to unite and take advantage of the momentum of trade war between the United States (US) and China. The invitation will be delivered by President Jokowi during a speech at the 34th Summit in Thailand, June 20-23.
“First, we must invite ASEAN countries to unite in anticipating a trade war between the US and China so that Asean economic stability is maintained,” President Jokowi said while leading a limited meeting of the Working Cabinet at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, Wednesday (6/19).
The Head of State said that it was important for ASEAN countries to take advantage of the momentum of trade wars to increase the economic stability of each country. “It is very important that we invite ASEAN countries together,” said President Jokowi.
Other issues that will be raised at the ASEAN Summit include combating marine debris, which deals with marine waste. “This is also an issue that we need to raise,” explained President Jokowi.
Furthermore, the Indonesian government will also raise issues related to the acceleration of peace in Rakhine State, Myanmar. “Those are the three things that we will convey at the Asean Summit,” said President Jokowi.
Present at the meeting were Deputy Foreign Minister AM Fachir, Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita, Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of ESDM Ignasius Jonan, Minister of Communication and Information Rudiantara, Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly, Minister of State Pratikno, and Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko .
