Jakarta – The growth of the logistics transportation business, along with the increasing availability of road infrastructure and demand for shipping services, has apparently helped boost the use of Isuzu Mimamori. Digital feature, Mimamori – Fleet Management System, which is specifically embedded in the commonrail Isuzu truck engine that helps to reduce fuel use, reduce damage to parts, and also increases security.
“The animation is very high, because this feature proved to be very beneficial for business people. This is a kind of black box for trucks that can be read quickly by businesses related to everything in their vehicles, ”said PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia Sales Support Department Head (IAMI) through written information on Monday (1/7/2019).
He explained, since the first time he entered Indonesia in 2015, the Mimamori feature turned out to be warmly welcomed by business people in the country. The first year, as many as 200 companies directly embed this feature in their vehicles. Now, not even five years old, Mimamori users have reached around 500 companies with around 2,000 units of vehicles. Most of them are logistics transport companies.
“This feature proves that Isuzu is at the forefront of implementing 4.0 technology. “The development of 4.0 technology has turned out to be applied in the transportation industry,” Istadi said.
This is based on the fact that trucks are valuable assets that carry valuable cargo, even concerning the safety of drivers and passengers. “Especially now that many companies are very sensitive to the element of safety, both for drivers and vehicles,” he said.
Istadi continued, in the transportation industry, technology 4.0 is needed to monitor the operation of vehicles that are safe and efficient, so as to avoid accidents, breakdowns and other unwanted things.
He further explained that Mimamori was designed to help make it easier for consumers to ensure the operation of their trucks safely and efficiently. This system can be applied on Isuzu Giga trucks that carry a common rail engine and are equipped with an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and Data Record Module (DRM).
Mimamori records vehicle operating data, then sends it regularly to servers in Japan. All of the data can be accessed by users through the website via a PC, laptop or smartphone.
Isuzu also equips Mimamori with the GPS feature so that customers can monitor vehicle location in real time . Consumers who are owners of the Isuzu truck fleet can see the history of their truck fleet journey through the GPS feature.
In addition, Mimamori is also connected to Google Map, so it can be useful to see traffic density and the selection of efficient travel routes. Isuzu also equips Mimamori with Geofence, to fence off locations as destinations or as locations that may not be entered.
“This feature is optional, so we continue to strive so that each company can take advantage of this feature that is useful for their operations,” Istadi said.
Press Operational Costs
The superiority of the feature was acknowledged by President Director of PT Nissho Solution Indonesia (NSI) Satoru Kimura. The Japanese automotive spare parts logistics company operating in Sunter, Jakarta has used Mimamori features in all Isuzu Giga trucks that are their operational vehicles.
Currently PT NSI has 40 Isuzu vehicles, 30 of which are Giga trucks. Some vehicles do not use Mimamori because they are only used around the warehouse.
Kimura added, in Japan, since tens of years ago, logistics companies recognized the tancograph feature, which records vehicle track records. “In Japan, driver analysis must exist. There is no data, there is no analysis, the truck cannot run, “he added.
According to him, the technological features of recording habit drivers in carrying their vehicles also continued to develop. On the market, many of these features are sold. However, it is not as complete as Mimamori which has complete recording items, ranging from the use of brakes, transmission shifts, rpm movements (engine speed per minute), fuel usage, and others. “Everything is automatically computerized,” Kimura said.
Based on the records, by using Mimamori, PT NSI can save 10-20 percent fuel usage. At present, the BBM component accounts for 30 percent of operating costs. Savings have not been calculated from the durability of spare parts so that they do not need to be replaced frequently, and the minimum damage to vehicles due to accidents
So, he was willing to spend more money to embed that feature in his fleet. The cost must be spent around Rp 1.5 million per unit per year.
Novy Meivadi, a PT NSI employee who was trusted to monitor the movement of the driver, admitted that he was greatly helped by Mimamori. He can see the movement of the entire fleet of trucks through his cellphone. In fact, if there is damage, automatically, Isuzu sends an email that he can access via his cellphone.
Explained, the power of Mimamori lies in complete driving habit reports to ensure truck drivers can operate trucks safely and efficiently. With Mimamori, Novy said, his party can monitor actual fuel consumption, and eco driving habits , by looking at the habits of speed selection, idling, use of the gas pedal, braking, selection of engine rpm, and shifting habits.
This feature is embedded in the ECU of each Isuzu Giga truck, and is connected to a mini device on the dashboard . The mini device is equipped with an alarm that will emit a woman’s voice to alert the driver if there is a deviant driving behavior. This includes if the speed of the truck exceeds the limit set at 80 km per hour.
“If you cross that line, you will immediately get a voice notification. Likewise when the rpm is too high, there will be a notification, “he said.
According to him, with the notification, accidents rarely occur so that optimal safety can be achieved. The use of fuel is also economical and spare parts are durable, because the rpm is set to remain stable. The problem is, said Novy, high rpm will drain fuel and accelerate damage to spare parts.
Data from Mimamori was used as a routine evaluation of PT NSI. In fact, every month, PT NSI provides incentives to drivers who enter the highest level. In fact, all drivers have entered the highest level, they have all received bonuses. “Now we change, the incentives are with the champion model, the highest score,” he said.
Kimura continued, the actual use of Mimamori in vehicles is useless if there is no data and evaluation. This is what is educated to the driver. If there are drivers who have poor results, they will get sanctions until the termination of employment, according to what was agreed at the beginning of the employment contract.
Some time ago Deputy President Director of Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia (IAMI) Keiji Takeda said that Isuzu Giga trucks were the choice of consumers because they were tough, fuel efficient, and could use any type of diesel fuel. This truck is also superior in the use of commonrail engines to meet the Euro 4 exhaust emissions standards that the government will require from 2021. “Giga has been using the engine since 2010,” he added.
In addition, added Keiji, Giga trucks are also smart because they are equipped with ECU and DRM, so that Mimamori features can be embedded. Currently the market share of Isuzu trucks is nationally at 13%. He is optimistic, until the end of the year, the market share can grow to 15%.
At present, Isuzu Giga has eight variants for vehicles with a Gross Total Weight (GVW) of 10-24 tons. The total sales of Isuzu trucks in the size of 10-24 tons in 2018 were 1,563 units. As for the total weight above 24 tons, Isuzu has four variants. Especially this size, in 2018 Isuzu won sales of 1,563 units.
According to the latest data, from January to May 2019, 1,334 units of the two Giga products have been sold.
Based on Gaikindo data, sales of commercial vehicle types of trucks continue to increase, both in the GVW size of 10-24 tons and sizes above 24 tons. In 2017, sales of 10-24 tons of GVW trucks were 5,849 units. That number rose to 7,274 units in 2018. Then, for sizes above 24 tons, in 2017 there were 20,779 units sold. In 2018, sales jumped significantly to 29,825 units.
Earlier to reporters, Secretary General of the Association of Motor Vehicle Industries in Indonesia (Gaikindo) Kukuh Kumara believes that sales of commercial vehicles will grow this year. Its growth is above the passenger vehicle segment. In 2018, the commercial vehicle segment rose by around 28 percent.
“There is a strong signal that it will grow in 2019, especially sales in the commercial or commercial vehicle segment even though the passenger vehicle segment has not been balanced,” he said recently.
